Sat, with damp dogs,
\nin the boot of my car.
\nwhile mist rolls over, drips.
\nDogs fidget, chew a stick.
\nFor me though, silence.<\/p>\n
Rain comes,
\nbeating on the roof and windows.
\nFalling heavier now,
\nnose \u00a0the car into the wind.<\/p>\n
The boot now childhood\u2019s cave
\nA teenaged den,
\nyoung camp outs.
\nCars slept in,
\neven the luxury of a van.<\/p>\n
Snug, in the elements.
\nA shift, wind sends eddies
\nShuffle back deeper in
\nShove the dogs into place.<\/p>\n
Pull the bootlid closer in
\nSanctuary, here.
\nThe smell of the wet dogs
\nEvocative of dogs, loved and gone.<\/p>\n
A choir the wind
\nThe rhythm of rain
\nThe curious shuffling of the dogs.
\nA place contained,
\nmemory evoked.<\/p>\n
Any one of a dozen beaches,
\nany lay-by on the moors,
\nPlymouth Hoe, Porthleven
\nSennen watch, not here.<\/p>\n
Not here, no.
\nSomewhere, though not here
\nFor a moment, please, be here.
