The chill morning reaches through my fog,
\non the air, the scent of distant rain.
\nHappily clad in sheltering clothes
\nwe set off.<\/p>\n
Along the track, styles and gates,
\nto where a thin brown line,
\ngrants permission
\nto cross the field.<\/p>\n
The valley top, gorse hedged path.
\nwater in the brook below rushed
\nAtop the hill, look down, the sea,
\npause awhile.<\/p>\n
Steep and gravelled, but descend we must.
\nTo turn left at the coast path,
\nwhere a kinder person, has built
\nladders to the beach.<\/p>\n
There at the song of the sea,
\nrest awhile. Let the sandy boys
\nplay their fighting games,
\nof child\u2019s play war.<\/p>\n
Across the rocks to the song of the sea
\nThe mussel pool, foraged,
\na thought to fish for supper
\nbut no.<\/p>\n
Inevitably, distant rain encroaches,
\ngrey headed clouds, with
\ndrizzle on the breeze,
\nThe wind picks up<\/p>\n
A shortened day, call off
\nthe dogs, and stumble back.
\nHappy to go home,
\nour way again.<\/p>\n
