A fronte praecipitium a tergo lupi<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rest awhile here, if I may,
\neverything passes too fast these days.
\nThis time of golden light should be celebrated.
\nWinter ahead, anticipated, not welcome,
\nit’s inevitability better than the alternative.
\nSome despise autumn, the colours intimidate,
\nthose glories cannot offset the hardships.<\/p>\n

Look, this richness is ours for the asking.
\nWe are here now, we hold this very truth.
\nLeaves fear the breeze,
\ntheir mutated glory extant,
\nthey too know what must come.
\nThe tree grieves for its loss, stands firm.
\nthe ground is now carpeted for us, lush, soft.<\/p>\n

There is shelter from the harshness at day\u2019s end.
\nFrost delays decay, colours grey, distinguished.
\nThe cold stiffens, sap struggles,
\nold limbs brittle against the wind.
\nThere is still a fire, burning low in the hearth.
\nSometimes warmth rouses memories.
\nMemories of times, when blazing we ran the ways,
\nracing, not against time, but ourselves,
\nthrown at the old world.<\/p>\n

Not halcyon our days, pressured, exuberant,
\nthough they exist only as shards.
\nEncapsulated in a taste, texture,
\nplaces, friends, touching, touched.
\nStare now, into the dancing flames,
\nremember how it once was.<\/p>\n

Hold onto it, do not brood, replenish the bounty.
\nThrow more fuel on the flames, watch them rise.
\nSpring is remembered as a glorious tune,
\ngrown stale with repetition.
\nSummer was all too much hard work, paying the piper.
\nWe reap the rewards of it now;
\nwe should enjoy them as we can
\nA harvest to be gathered in, held, used, enjoyed.<\/p>\n

We have not delayed the inevitable,
\nbut cautioned ourselves into the present.
\nOur bastions against the coming weather,
\nseeds sewn in warmer days.
\nWe nurture them, they are sturdy we hope.
\nSecurity of a sort, but not assured.
\nHome is warm, comfortable, a refuge,
\nthat wind is resistible
\nto a degree, yet we stumble forward.<\/p>\n

We are not harbingers, we know not acclaim,
\nthough autumn is the best of seasons.
\nWe laud the golden light, not of summer,
\nbut of the fading days.
\nDark comes early now, days are shorter.
\nAutumn is both good and transitory, enjoy it.
