Long remembered places intrude, unbidden
\nslivers of past. We were then, we are now.
\nEchoed shadows, from the places of my life,
\ndrawn, underscored.
\nThey come.<\/p>\n
On the shore, up to the hill, walking.
\nToo young for drink, bored, life constricted
\nby an unwritten code of \u201cthou shalt not.\u201d
\nDark roads I wondered for its own sake.
\nTo kill an hour.<\/p>\n
Off from a new estate, walking a path consumed,
\nin thought. When I looked up, and saw
\nthe pace imagined. The realisation,
\nthat this was real, this was here, now.
\nShocked to the core.
\nI shed my old skin.<\/p>\n
In a dark old room, on a bust sofa bed,
\na shabby mansion, reading Doyle.
\nBruised knuckles after a day fighting rock,
\nand myself. The peat fire, that scent alone,
\nbrings me back there.<\/p>\n
Pordenack, in the rain, a cave, close warm.
\nScuttling up the guts of the rock,
\nfinding a secret place to store the ashes of my life.
\nMaybe to return there, to remain there.
